🚗 Your Winter Real Estate Road Trip: Vehicle Prep Checklist:
Preparation ensures your vehicle won't stop your real estate journey, whether you're listing a home or searching for your perfect property in winter conditions.
Mechanical health, traction, visibility, and emergency readiness.

Mechanical Health: The Pre-Trip Check-Up, a professional inspection is recommended.
• Antifreeze/Coolant: Check the level and concentration to prevent the engine from freezing or overheating.
• Oil: Consult your owner's manual; you may need to switch to a winter-grade oil.
• Hoses & Belts: Inspect these for any cracks or leaks, as rubber can become brittle in low temperatures.
• Battery: Cold weather drains power, so ensure your battery is fully charged and healthy.

Tires and Traction: Staying Connected to the Road. Safe traction is vital for winter driving. Don't overlook your tires:
• Tire Health: Cold weather causes tire pressure to drop, so check it frequently. Also, evaluate the tread depth using a test like the "penny test" or "toonie test."
• Winter Tires: If you anticipate severe weather, install winter tires (identifiable by the snowflake symbol) for superior grip.
• Traction Aids: Keep a small folding shovel and a bag of sand or non-clumping cat litter in your vehicle for extra traction if you get stuck. Also, include jumper cables and a tow strap or chain.

Visibility: See and Be Seen. Clear sightlines are non-negotiable for safety:
• Wipers and Fluid: Replace old wiper blades, possibly with winter-specific blades. Ensure your reservoir is full with winter-grade windshield washer fluid (with antifreeze) and keep an extra jug in the trunk.
• Lights: Check that all lights—headlights, brake lights, and turn signals—are clean and fully operational.
• Tools: Don't forget an ice scraper and snow brush for clearing your vehicle.

Fuel Line Protection: Preventing a Non-Start To avoid major starting issues caused by condensation:
• Gas Tank Level: Always keep your gas tank at least half-full. This limits empty space inside the tank.
• Condensation Prevention: Limiting the empty space prevents water condensation from forming and freezing in the fuel line.
• Antifreeze: Include gas line antifreeze in your emergency kit.

Comprehensive Emergency Kit: Ready for the Unexpected. A well-stocked emergency kit is your lifeline if you are stranded. Store it in the back seat, as the trunk may freeze.
