This is an extension to my original post of all my home purchases. 🏡
Breaking down the numbers shows you more of the reality. 💰 My partner (at the time) and I looked at other homes, but 2014 was a peak year in real estate. After getting outbid on a property, our landlords asked us if we wanted to buy the townhouse. We decided to go that route as we liked living there, it would be super cheap cost of living for us, & we didn’t have to win in multiple offers.
⏩ Fast forward to 2016, two years after the oil crash, the market was softening. We had our townhouse on the market for a while and it wasn’t selling and we had purchased another home. So, we had renters lined up, but just as we were to sign a lease, an agent reached out and said he had clients that wanted to purchase it. Neither of us were interested in having a rental, so we sold.
When I say we “broke even”, we got back what we put into it, but we did still have equity in the home, based on our down payment & making additional payments. That equity we decided, was better suited to put towards our next home rather than keep as a rental.
(Also astounded by the picture quality back then. 😅🤭)
