August 7, 2026 – The Municipality of Red Lake is pleased to announce that the Ontario government is investing more than $1.4 million to support renovations to the Cochenour Arena.

This funding through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) will allow the Municipality to begin implementing the project.

“We have been looking for opportunities to improve our arena for the user groups in the municipality,” said Mayor Fred Mota. “This funding will make a meaningful difference and will help us enhance our facility.”

The project will include the demolition and removal of the existing ice pad, installation of new brine lines and refrigeration floor piping and the pouring and finishing of a new concrete ice pad. It will also include the replacement of boards and glass to meet safety requirements for minor hockey and Junior A play.

“We are looking forward to beginning improvements to this key community asset,” said Mayor Fred Mota.
