A heartfelt thank you to Wm. Thomas "Tom" Follis for all that you and your predecessors brought to the community. It has been an honor to continue the Follis name in the appraisal world and I am grateful for all that you taught me and all of the support you provided me over this past 12 years.

Are you tired of the wet winter weather? Your septic system might be too. Make sure your septic system isn’t SAD (Soaked All Day). Check to make sure downspouts and water are diverted away from your system. Got questions? Visit www.whatcomcounty.us/Septic

Below freezing temperatures are predicted this week! If your outdoor faucets/spigots are not already winterized, make sure to insulate them before temperatures drop. Freezing pipes can lead to leaks and worse once temperatures warm again. To save yourself from bursting pipes that can lead to costly repairs and high water bills, insulate now. If you have outdoor water for your pets and/or livestock, have a plan in place to provide them with fresh water.

“Participating in the [Neighborhood Native Landscaping Program] program to install low-impact natural landscaping turned out to be one of smartest and easiest decisions we made. We could not believe the wonderful outcome; seeing our yard as a thing of beauty and helping the environment at the same time.” – Pat & Bev Jerns

Pat and Bev have always felt a special connection to Birch Bay. After moving there in 1987, they feel especially responsible for protecting the beauty and health of the area they love. When they heard about the Neighborhood Native Landscaping Program (NNLP) in the local paper, they thought it would be an excellent fit for their property and the bay.

Are you interested in participating? Visit the program website to learn more and complete the online interest form: https://www.whatcomcounty.us/4231/Neighborhood-Native-Landscaping-Program

Great information from Brad!

Zinsco panels are no bueno. Latent fire hazard as the breakers overheat without tripping and the grounding mechanism goes bad. Multiple cases of sparking and causing fires inside the panel. If you have one of these get it checked and replaced.

Ok... (deep breath)
This is what we have set up so far, our goal is to collect enough gift cards for staff and tenants of the Terminal Bldg. and Dirty Dan Steakhouse employees too...

Tragedy is stressful but the fact that it is the week of Christmas! Even more so, The Fairhaven Association will be collecting gift cards ($25 amount), they can be from the Village, Bellingham or even general visa cards and other box stores.
We are not set up to accept cash so this is the most logical way to help the need before Christmas.

I will be set up at the HUB (1106 Harris Ave - Inside Finnegan's Alley) this week to collect!

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragic loss. 💜

“The oldest surviving commercial structure on the south side of Bellingham is Fairhaven’s Terminal Building built in 1888. One source claims it was named after the town’s desire to become the end stop of the Great Northern Railroad and another says it was named by the owner in 1930 as a reference to where two electric street passenger railways intersected. The two-story wood frame building was erected in 1888, and the following year the south and west sides of the building were covered with bricks that came to the town in ships from the Orient.”

A drainfield that is constantly saturated can’t do its job, which can lead to sewage backups and costly repairs. Keep your septic system happy by ensuring rainwater runoff and downspouts on your property are diverted away from your septic system. Visit whatcomcounty.us/Septic
