Harvest hasn’t gone quite according to plan this year.

Rain, hail, equipment breakdowns and plenty of things outside our control. It’s easy to let those problems become the only thing you see.

But the more I focus on what I enjoy about this life, the smaller those problems start to feel.

I don’t always get that right, but today the sun is shining, we’re moving forward, and there’s plenty to be thankful for.

There's always another job to do on the farm.

Something to fix. Something to maintain. Something to get ready before harvest.

But this time of year also reminds me to slow down a little. The busy season is coming, and when it does, it'll demand everything we've got.

Until then, I'm grateful for evenings with my family, time with the kids, and the chance to enjoy this season while it lasts.

One thing farming continues to teach me is gratitude.

It's easy to focus on what's going wrong in the moment. Too much rain. Not enough rain. Too much heat. Not enough time.

But more often than not, the things I was frustrated about end up becoming the very things I'm thankful for.

I've learned to appreciate what's in front of me, trust the process, and remember that challenges often reveal their purpose with time.

It's easy to focus on the challenges. This year we've had lots of moisture, difficult spraying conditions, and crops that could use some sunshine.

But seasons can change quickly.

A few good weeks can completely shift the outlook, and that's why farmers tend to keep looking forward. There's always a reason to stay hopeful when you're focused on the long game.
