Let’s talk about kitchen renovations. You know… those beautiful ones you see on Instagram or Pinterest. Yeah. Those ones.
The reality is, many of those kitchens are $150,000+…Sometimes more. Honestly, custom wood millwork can be $150k alone.
Between cabinetry, countertops, appliances, plumbing, electrical, flooring, lighting, labour, permits, and the “while we’re at it…” decisions that happen once construction starts, renovation costs can climb quickly. Especially when the goal is a kitchen that feels custom, timeless, and built to last.
And I think this is where social media has created some unrealistic expectations around renovations. Because it’s easy to fall in love with a dreamy Pinterest kitchen without realizing the investment behind it. I never want people feeling discouraged because they can’t recreate a luxury renovation on a smaller budget.
Truthfully, some of the best renovations are not the biggest or most expensive ones. Thoughtful design, better functionality, improved lighting, a smarter layout, refinished cabinetry, or mixing high and low finishes can completely transform a space without it turning into a six-figure project.
As both a REALTOR® and the designer behind Willoak Homes, I spend a lot of time helping clients understand where their money is best spent, what adds value, and how to create spaces that feel elevated without losing practicality.
Because at the end of the day, a home should feel like you. Not like a Pinterest board with a scary invoice attached. 😉
