18°C, flawless blue skies, and not a single cloud in sight! ☀️🍁🌊
​Days like this in October are pure gold in the Porcupine Forest, and we definitely don’t have many days left this year to enjoy weather like this. Looking at the forecast, the weather gods have some weekend rain heading our way, so we’re soaking up every single drop of sunshine while we can.
​The water is like glass, the autumn air is beautiful and it’s prime time to get out on the trails or just sit by the water before the shift hits. You just can't beat northern Saskatchewan on a clear fall day! 🌲✨

Limited out on bush chickens today... plus one special guest! 🏼🍗🤣
​You can always count on that one spruce grouse to stick out like a sore thumb on the cleaning board! Dark meat, strong flavor, and zero camouflage once it hits the tray.
​Walked the trails around the Porcupine Forest, got our limit, and stocked up on some of the best table fare northern Saskatchewan has to offer. 🌲🌾✨

​Out cruising the timber trails near the retreat today. These wooden bridges were built for the heavy haulers, but they’re the perfect gateway to quiet autumn woods and endless backcountry riding. ☀️🪵🚜

No photos from tonight’s evening cruise, but I’m pretty sure the local bear population held a full town hall meeting right on the trails! 🐻🚗🐾
​We went for a quiet loop around the bush tonight and saw bears everywhere. In the ditches, along the tree line, across the roads... apparently word got out that winter is coming and the pre-hibernation buffet is officially open in the Porcupine Forest! 🍁🍂

Been a minute, but the wildlife out here hasn't slowed down! 🦌🌾👀
​You really have to keep your eyes peeled in the Porcupine Forest. One second it’s just golden poplars, and the next, you’ve got a curious spectator watching you from the timber while the machine idles.

The forest is officially turning golden! 🍂☀️🌲
​The leaves are changing fast out here in the Porcupine Forest. There’s about a two-week window every autumn where the lane looks like a tunnel of gold, and we are right in the thick of it.

​Fresh air, crunchy leaves underfoot, and that crisp September sunshine hitting the yard. You just can't beat fall in northern Saskatchewan. 🌾✨

End-of-the-day views along the old rail line. 🌲🛤️💙
​Cruising across the river and down these gravel corridors is one of the best ways to explore the wilderness right outside the retreat. Autumn is officially settling into northern Saskatchewan, and the trail views are unmatched. 🍂🌾

​Time to head back to the cabin, kick your boots off, and relax for the evening! 🪵🔥🏠

Exhausted, sore, running on caffeine... and happier than ever. ☕🫎🥓

​Put in some serious hours in the timber this past week and brought home another gorgeous elk yesterday! After all the heavy lifting, skinning and clean up,, the camp reward has officially arrived.

​They say hard work builds character, but out here it also builds an unbeatable bacon-wrapped tenderloin platter. 🥩🔥

​Time to throw these on the heat, kick back with a cold bevy and rest the legs! 🪵🏠
