Today was a pretty special one. 💕
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this morning I took part in the CIBC Run for the Cure — something I never imagined would have such a personal meaning to me.
I walked the 1K with my girlfriends Laura and Amber, while Sadie and some of her skating friends ran the 5K in support. Watching them head out to run was one of those moments that hit a little differently. 🥹💕 I definitely teared up.
This past year has been a lot. A breast cancer diagnosis in January, surgery, chemotherapy and now radiation. There have been some really hard days, some scary days, lots of tears, plenty of laughs, and a whole new appreciation for feeling good and having an ordinary day.
I’ve also learned just how incredibly lucky I am. My family, my friends, my work family, my clients and so many people in my life have checked in, brought food, driven me places, made me laugh, covered for me, let me cry and reminded me over and over that I wasn’t doing any of this alone.
I’ve continued working through most of my treatment because I genuinely love what I do, but I’ve also learned this year that sometimes everything else can wait.
Today wasn’t about cancer being the biggest part of my story. It was about being surrounded by people I love, walking that 1K, watching those girls run the 5K and realizing just how far I’ve come.
I’m still finishing radiation and there are more steps ahead, but I’m getting there. And I’m incredibly grateful. 💕
To every woman going through this, every survivor, every family supporting someone they love, and everyone we have lost — today was for you too.
And please, ladies… get your mammograms. 💗
