Thinking About Selling This Fall?
If a fall move is somewhere on your radar, one of the best things you can do is start preparing before you're actually ready to list.
Not because your home needs to be perfect, but because some selling decisions take more time than homeowners expect.
Here are five things worth thinking about now:
1. Walk through your home with fresh eyes.
Look for small repairs, crowded rooms, worn areas, and anything that could distract from the home's best features.
2. Be selective about renovations.
Not every outdated feature needs to be replaced. Before spending thousands of dollars, consider whether the improvement is actually likely to strengthen the presentation of your home.
3. Start decluttering early.
Basements, garages, closets, kitchens, and storage areas can take much longer to sort through than expected. Starting now means less pressure later, and fewer things to move.
4. Understand your home's position in the market.
Don't base your expectations only on current asking prices. Recent comparable sales, competing properties, condition, location, and features all matter when determining how a home should be positioned.
5. Work backward from your moving date.
Think about where you want to go next, when you would ideally move, and how much preparation you may need before listing.
The biggest advantage of starting early is having time to make decisions thoughtfully instead of making them under pressure.
You may discover that your home needs less work than you expected. Or you may find a few areas that are worth addressing now.
Either way, knowing your options early can make the selling process much easier to navigate.
