Hey Folks, for the 16th year, Main Beach has received the Blue Flag designation! Here is more information on this tremendous accomplishment from the Municipality of Central Elgin.

The Municipality of Central Elgin is proud to announce that Port Stanley Main Beach has once again been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag designation for 2026, marking 16 consecutive years of recognition for meeting the highest international standards in water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility, and visitor services.

The Blue Flag is a globally recognized eco-certification awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education and administered in Canada by Swim Drink Fish. Port Stanley Main Beach first received this distinction in 2010, becoming the first beach on Lake Erie to earn Blue Flag status. Since then, the Municipality has proudly maintained this internationally recognized standard of excellence year after year.

"Receiving Blue Flag designation for the 16th consecutive year is a source of pride for our community and reflects the collective efforts of staff, volunteers, residents, and visitors who help keep Port Stanley Main Beach clean, safe, and welcoming," said Mayor Andrew Sloan.

The Blue Flag designation is one of the world's most recognized voluntary environmental certifications for beaches and marinas. To qualify, beaches must meet and maintain rigorous criteria in areas such as water quality monitoring, accessibility, safety, environmental management, and public information.

Port Stanley Main Beach continues to be a premier destination along Lake Erie, attracting thousands of residents and visitors each year. The Blue Flag designation provides assurance that beachgoers can enjoy a clean, well-managed, and an environmentally responsible waterfront experience.

As part of maintaining Blue Flag status, regular water quality testing, safety assessments, environmental education initiatives, and ongoing beach management practices are conducted throughout the season.
