Built in 1935 and designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
Situated on approximately 1500 acres of land this unique home is built partially over a waterfall. The home totals 9300 sqft, 4400 of which is comprised of outdoor terraces.
This magnificent home was built for $155,000 (3 million today) and in 2001 underwent extensive restorations totaling 11.5 million (17.6 million today)
The home opened as a museum in 1964 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. The home currently receives around 160,000 visitors per year and is listed on the Smithsonian's "life list of 28 places to see before you die"

Mark Twain House
Hartford, Connecticut

Built in 1874 the house boasts an impressive 11,500 sqft with 25 rooms.
Twain and his family lived in the home from 1874-1891. After poor financial decisions the family moved to Europe in 1891.
Twain wrote many of his most well known works during his time in the home. Titles such as, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Prince and the Pauper, Life on the Mississippi, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
The building later functioned as a school and a public library. The home was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1962. After restorations it was opened as a House Museum in 1974.
National Geographic named it "one of the 10 best historical homes in the world"

CRAIGDARROCHE CASTLE
Victoria, British Columbia

Built for coal baron Robert Dunsmuir. The castle is an impressive 25000 sqft and was completed in 1890.
At the time of construction Robert Dunsmuir and his wife Joan were the wealthiest people in British Columbia. Unfortunately Robert died in 1889 just 17 months before construction was completed.

The home later served as a military hospital, college, offices, and a conservatory, before it was converted into a historical museum in 1979.
The castle is also rumored to be haunted 👻

BILTMORE ESTATE
Asheville North Carolina

Built for George Washington Vanderbilt II, Construction took 6 years spanning from 1889-1895 and included nearly 1000 workers and 60 stonemasons to complete. At a cost of $5 million dollars (todays equivalent would be $150 million)
Vanderbilt bought nearly 700 parcels of land to encompass the massive 8000 acre estate. The house boasts an impressive 178,926 sqft of floor space. 250 rooms, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, and 3 kitchens. The Biltmore estate remains the largest privately owned home in the U.S. and is still owned by Vanderbilt's descendants. It now serves as a house museum and tourist attraction
