This magnificent home was built for $155,000 (3 million today) and in 2001 underwent extensive restorations totaling 11.5 million (17.6 million today)
The home opened as a museum in 1964 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. The home currently receives around 160,000 visitors per year and is listed on the Smithsonian's "life list of 28 places to see before you die"
