What exactly is OSB — and why is it used in our modules?

Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is more than just “wood chips.” It’s an engineered structural wood panel designed to provide consistent strength, stiffness and dimensional stability.

According to the Canadian Wood Council, OSB:
> Is manufactured with strategically oriented layers of wood strands to create consistent structural performance> Is widely used for wall, roof and floor sheathing
> Can resist racking and distortion from wind and seismic loads
> Has strong fastener (nail and screw) holding properties
> Makes efficient use of forest resources, including smaller-diameter and otherwise lower-value trees
🇨🇦 Is manufactured in Canada to meet established CSA standards, with qualifying sheathing referenced in the National Building Code of Canada.

OSB is also used as the exterior skin of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) — an important part of the building envelope used in Skeetchestn Dodeca-Homes.

There’s a lot more science and engineering behind OSB than its appearance might suggest.

This recognition means so much to us.

What began as a vision rooted in Secwepemc knowledge, traditional round design and a desire to create better housing opportunities has grown into something we are incredibly proud to share with communities across Canada.

The Indigenous Business Award recognizes excellence in Indigenous entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership, with recipients evaluated on leadership, community impact, innovation and sustainability.

For us, this award represents more than building homes. It recognizes the work behind creating opportunities, building community capacity, supporting Indigenous economic development and showing what can happen when tradition and innovation come together.
