October 8th and yes, it’s time to clean out those gutters before the snow falls. We have been fortunate this year in the greater Edmonton area with a more natural fall season. Dearly missed having anything close to Summer but it’s time to move on. Time to take care of those autumn tasks. Keeping the gutters clear of debris lends itself to a much friendlier melt come springtime. Freeze/thaw with nowhere to go can lead to ice damming, damage to facia and soffits.
Snowmelt cascading over top of your gutters and landing next to your foundation or skirting is never a good thing. Supposed to be nice this Thanksgiving weekend. Make a date with your ladder and gutters. (and gloves). Could save yourself some frustration and $$.
PS. Time to drain your rain barrels too. Don’t want those bad boys busting open as they freeze and expand!!

As the end of August approaches, you’ll start to hear that familiar sound again emanating from the basement. Your Furnace! Really good time to visit your closest hardware store for those furnace filters. Check the size of your filters by gently pulling the old one out enough to read the dimensions. Although the price of these are ridiculous, it’s far cheaper that the cost of a new furnace motor fatigued by trying to draw air through a clogged filter. Good idea to change the filters every 3-4 months. Less than that if you have furry friends in the home.
