🎨 How to paint crisp lines every time, even if you've never painted a room before.
One of the first things so many new homeowners want to do is put their own colour on the walls. And one of the first mistakes? Rushing the tape. Here's how to do it right 👇
🖌️ The 7-step process for perfect lines:
1️⃣ TAPE and take your time with it
Press down the entire edge of the tape firmly before you do anything else. Every gap is a bleed waiting to happen. I used a laser level to keep my lines perfectly straight before taping,
a projector works too. This step is worth every extra minute you give it.
2️⃣ CUT IN with the existing colour first
Before you open the new paint, brush the old wall colour right along the tape edge. This seals the tape and stops the new colour from bleeding underneath. It's the step most people skip and the reason most people get wavy lines.
3️⃣ PAINT your first coat 🖌️
Nice and even. Don't rush it.
4️⃣ PAINT your second coat
Once the first is dry, go again for full, even coverage.
5️⃣ WAIT 30–60 minutes ⏱️
The tape comes off while the paint is still slightly tacky, not fully dry. Timing this right is everything.
6️⃣ PEEL at a 45° angle away from the wall
Slow and steady. Pull the tape back on itself, not straight out from the wall.
7️⃣ Step back and admire your work 🤩
Crisp. Clean. Professional lines. Every single time.
Whether you just picked up the keys to your first home or you're freshening up a space you've lived in for years, these little wins are what make a house feel like yours. 🏡
