Two years ago, these guys proudly stood in front of their first home in Alberta after making the courageous move from Guatemala to Ontario and then Alberta in search of a better life.

Since then, they have faced unimaginable challenges. After losing one household income when Alba, the grandmother of the family went back to Guatemala to help her ailing mother, and then nearly losing Edgar to a catastrophic brain aneurysm, the family has spent the last year focused on recovery and survival.

Despite their hard work and determination, they have fallen behind on their mortgage and are now at risk of losing the home they worked so hard to achieve.

I’m lucky enough to live on a large body of water, and every day I watch the ducks and geese glide across the water. They look so calm and effortless.

But underneath the surface, those little feet are moving like crazy….

Lately, I’ve realized that’s probably a pretty good description of my life.

If you’ve noticed my Instagram feed has been a little dry lately, you’re not wrong. It’s been listing videos, sold posts, and not much else.

The truth is, I’ve been completely run off my feet.

When I was young, one of my first performance reviews in retail included feedback that I needed a greater sense of urgency. As an overachiever who hated disappointing people, that feedback stuck with me.

I became faster, more responsive & more available.

And honestly, that trait has served me incredibly well throughout my career. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been successful in retail, corporate training, and now real estate.

But it comes at a cost.

Sometimes being everything to everyone at the drop of a hat means you forget to slow down and be yourself.

If my younger self looked at my life today from the outside, she’d probably think, “Wow, she really has it all together.”

What she wouldn’t see are the feet paddling underneath the water.

The long days, pressure & the constant juggling act.

And that’s why I want to get back to sharing more than just houses on here.

I started this account to connect with people, not just market real estate.

So here’s to showing up a little more authentically, a little less perfectly, and remembering that most of us are paddling harder than we look.
