⚡️ When Your Power Bar Starts Looking Like the Electrical Panel… 😂

We’ve seen setups like this more times than we’d like to admit!

Extension cords, power bars, adapters… and just one more thing to plug in. 😅

But while it may look funny, this can create a serious safety concern.

Power bars and extension cords are intended for temporary, limited use — they aren’t a replacement for permanent household wiring.

🔥 Overloaded circuits can overheat
⚡ Shock hazards can occur
🔌 Daisy-chaining cords and power bars increases risk
🏠 Permanent needs should be addressed with properly installed receptacles by a qualified electrician

A power bar gives you more outlets — it doesn’t give you more electrical capacity.

If you’re constantly reaching for another extension cord, it may be time for a proper electrical solution.

Another day, another creative setup discovered during an inspection. 👀

Here are a few common items homeowners should pay attention to during a new build:

🔹 Air Sealing – Gaps around windows, doors, and service penetrations can lead to drafts, higher heating costs, and unwanted moisture movement. Especially in Newfoundland's climate.

🔹 Insulation Installation – Insulation that's compressed, missing, or installed incorrectly won't perform as intended, reducing your home's energy efficiency.

🔹 Roof & Attic Ventilation – Proper ventilation is essential to help control moisture, improve shingle life, and reduce the risk of condensation problems.

🔹 Exterior Flashing & Weatherproofing – Flashing around windows, doors, decks, and roof penetrations helps direct water away from the home. Small installation errors today can lead to significant moisture damage years later.

🔹 Structural Details – Proper fastening, framing connections, and support installation all play an important role in the long-term performance of your home.

The reality is that most construction issues aren't the result of poor workmanship, they're simply oversights that happen on busy job sites. Catching them early is almost always easier, faster, and less expensive than discovering them after the home is complete.
