Large building air tightness testing completed. 110 unit apartment plus commercial space.
Testing large buildings are never the same each building has its own complexity . This building had some design features that introduced some complexity. A lot!!! of walking and stairs were done on this test day. 🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃

Part of envelope testing is calibrating the equipment. The testing standards used all call out for a specific calibration timeline. Here we are testing the spray rack we commonly use for ASTM 1105 water pe*******on of windows and doors as well as several other testing standards.
Calibration check needs to be done every six months

Some late night air tightness testing. This building is in the final push to get open for clients therefore to satisfy the needs of the many other trades working we complete this during the night.

Results were great 0.42ach50. This building is passive haus and therefore with the calculations they use the volume above ceiling tiles do not count. Is we were to calculate actual building envelope volume would be below 0.2ach50

8 air changes per hour. We don’t typically see single family homes this “leaky” here. Multifamily - absolutely unfortunately. 5600 cfm of air.
This home 1965 and had some major building envelope leakage, outside of large building testing it is rare for me to have to run the blower door on open range.
Point of today was to give the client a baseline and information on where to look to make improvement.

Now what was really amazing that all 3 of the fireplace dampers were doing a great job sealing.

Installing this 6’ triple glazed patio door. My wife is amazing shows up to help and we were able to carry it around and get it done.
I regularly see and get sent the posts of “no one has more faith in their wife when asking them to help/ lift _______”
This definitely happens on a regular with me. But she always pulls it off. It’s not just faith but confidence.

The right way is not usually the easy way when it comes to remodelling. However it is about doing it right and ensuring the money is used for the right reasons to create longevity.
There are many window companies that advertise the lack of damage they can do to your home with replacements. They have insert windows and snap in mouldings. We see these fail as they don’t address the leaks or damage already done. Head flashing is usually omitted or bent and sill flashing does not get done or tied in. It gets costly to find damaged wood but it costs even more to fix it the second time.
These companies exist to serve the demand of visual appeal. However 💄 on a 🐖 is still a pig.

Imagine the height of this shower once the bulkhead is done around this ductwork. As well as you can see the flex duct in the back that still need to be ran under this supply duct and get to the hrv for supply air.
Once done continuing down this path of crazyness the shower head will be in the bulkhead framing. there is no way to get into the shower without a helmet on let alone stand and wash your hair.

Follow up to recent post on sealant adhesion testing.
This is something that should be done when sealant is being relied on as a weather barrier.
Part of the 3rd party testing we perform.
