Canada Home Prices Hit Their Lowest Since 2023
Reflecting on the latest national home price figures, we see that the index covering 11 major Canadian cities has slipped by just under 0.5% month-over-month, marking eight declines in the past nine months. National prices are now at their lowest point since early in the second quarter of 2023, down around 4% from the late-2022 peak. That brief rebound we witnessed earlier this year lost steam, and the adjusted measure recorded its first pullback in six months—largely due to shifts in employment and affordability.

The annual picture shows national losses deepening to about 4%, with Vancouver, Hamilton, and Toronto leading the downturn, while Quebec City, Montreal, and Winnipeg have managed some gains. For clients and neighbours in Northern Ontario, this broader trend highlights the importance of understanding our own local markets—where factors like community ties, lifestyle preferences, and property types can shape outcomes differently.

Looking ahead, rising bond yields are expected to push up new mortgage costs and could further tighten borrowing power, as sales volumes begin to dip once again.
