This scheme was exposed in 2016, leading to significant changes in BC’s real estate industry.

Today, there are stronger disclosure requirements if a buyer intends to assign (flip) a contract. In many cases, the standard contract now states that if an assignment occurs, the seller may be entitled to any profits resulting from that assignment.

There have also been major changes around representation. In most situations, realtors in BC can no longer represent both the buyer and seller in the same transaction, helping reduce potential conflicts of interest and improve consumer protection.
