On July 16, 2026, the FVREB Stakeholder & Government Relations Committee attended “Building the Infrastructure Canada Needs”, hosted by the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade, featuring The Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.

The discussion focused on major investments in trade and transportation infrastructure, including the Port of Vancouver expansion, expected to create 17,000 jobs and boost container capacity by 50%. The Minister reaffirmed commitments to engage in meaningful Indigenous consultation and the need to balance economic growth with environmental and social responsibility.

As the region grows, the conversation reinforced the need for more housing, stronger transportation networks, and coordinated infrastructure planning to support thriving communities across the Fraser Valley.
