The Bank of Canada has announced it is holding its benchmark interest rate at 2.25% for June 2026.

Here's what you need to know 👇

🏦 No Change in Rates
The policy rate stays at 2.25%, keeping borrowing costs steady for now.
📊 Why the Hold?
The Bank is navigating a lot at once. A Middle East conflict is pushing energy prices higher, US trade policy uncertainty continues, and Canada's economy edged slightly negative in Q1. Governing Council is taking a careful approach while monitoring how things unfold.
🏡 Impact on Homeowners & Buyers
✔️ Variable mortgage rates stay the same
✔️ HELOC rates remain unchanged
✔️ Buyers get continued stability as we move into the summer market

📅 What's Next?
The next rate announcement is July 15, 2026, when the Bank will also release its updated Monetary Policy Report. That one could bring changes depending on how inflation and economic growth evolve over the coming weeks.

💭 What does this mean for you?
Inflation is sitting around 2.8% and expected to hover near 3% in the short term before gradually easing. Core inflation, however, has moved down to around 2%. For buyers and sellers, this period of stability is worth paying attention to.
