David Brandy is an award-w

inning lens-based artist. Brandy's artistic mantra is, "Beauty can be strange and the strange can be beautiful." His passion as an artist is to present man-altered landscapes with the uncanny – the psychological experience of something strangely familiar. His ongoing series, "Newer Topographics", emphasizes the strong sense of isolation humankind feels due to the juxtaposition of natural landscapes with solitary manmade constructs. Brandy’s work was sort-listed for the 2021 Aesthetica Art Prize with an exhibition at York Art Gallery, UK. He received an Emerging Artists by Emerging Curator Award at the 2019 Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. His art sold over-asking in the Curatorial Collection at SNAP 2019 - Toronto’s premier fine art photography auction. He was a short-listed finalist in both the Quest Art 2018 National Art Prize, and the 2017 Salt Spring National Art Prize. Brandy’s art hangs in his collectors’ residences and in commercial space across North America.

My passion as a lens-based artist is to capture "topographic" images. Technically that means landscapes that contain a human-made structure in the scene.

The first exhibition of these kinds of photographs was called, "New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-Altered Landscape". It was a groundbreaking exhibition of landscape photography, held from October 1975 to February 1976 at the International Museum of Photography at the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York.

The images in that show included parking lots, suburban homes, and coal mines, usually without people.

Now regarded as one of the most important photography exhibitions of the twentieth century, the works of the "New Topographics" artists serve as a vital inspiration to my art practice.

The image of mine you're looking at is called "Electric Wonderland". I came upon this scene last December on the morning after a wonderful snowfall in Grey County.

I am thrilled to have this image chosen to be part of Xposé 2026, the CAPIC National annual fine art photography exhibition. The show will be held at Papermill Gallery, Todmorden Mills, Toronto, throughout September.

Please join me and all the other wonderful artists exhibiting in this show for the opening on September 3, at 6:30 PM. I'd love to chat with you more about "new topographics".

A powerful and overwhelming exhibition is on right now A Space Gallery called, “Every Day of Peace in the Last Hundred Years”. Twenty-five panels each with hand-written dates from every day from the past 100 years. The public is invited to erase the dates (marked with an asterisk) when there was no peace between nations over the past 100 years. The overwhelming part is, there is not a single date without an asterisk. The public is invited to erase the dates where there was no peace. I sadly erased my birthday.
