Moving in Toronto this October? Oct 31 lands on a Saturday this year, and that changes how the whole month books up.
Count it properly and October narrows fast. Oct 1 is a Thursday, so the first wave of turnovers lands mid-week and bleeds into that first weekend. Thanksgiving takes Monday the 12th — and some buildings won't release the service elevator on a statutory holiday, so ask yours before you assume the long weekend is free.
Then the month ends on a Saturday turnover date. That's the one everybody wants.
What's actually left is a couple of ordinary weekends in the middle. We watch this happen from the truck every autumn: nobody thinks about October until mid-October, and by then the date has teeth.
None of that matters if your date already has a crew attached to it.

Two different Toronto customers, two different moves, the same two names in both Google reviews: Serge and Max.

Moving downtown Toronto September 10–13? King Street West is closed, and the truck is your real problem.
Not the stairs. Not the couch. Getting a vehicle within carrying distance of your door while Festival Street has King shut between Peter and University.
Three things worth checking today.
Whether your address sits inside or beside the closure. King, John and Peter are obvious, but the streets feeding them clog long before the barricades — a route that normally works quietly stops working.
Where your building actually wants the truck. Downtown buildings usually have one designated loading point, and during a closure that point may be the only realistic option. Better to know now than at 8 a.m.
Who handles the parking question. Depending on where the truck has to sit, occupying part of a city street can require a permit from the City of Toronto. Ask your mover who deals with that and what they need from you.
And if your date bends at all — the 14th instead of the 11th is the easiest problem you'll solve this month.

Moving out of a Toronto rental on Oct 31? The hardest decision is already behind you — your notice is filed.
In Ontario a tenant's notice generally runs at least 60 days and ends on the last day of a rental period. Which means if Oct 31 is your date, that paperwork went in around the start of this month. It's done. The date isn't a maybe anymore.
Here's what we see every single year from the truck. Nobody thinks about it again until mid-October, and then the date grows teeth — the good weekends are gone, the elevator window is gone, and the packing hasn't started.
Nothing dramatic has to happen today. Know roughly what's moving. Know what your building needs from you. Get a crew attached to the date while it's still a calm decision.
Rules vary by tenancy — check yours with the Landlord and Tenant Board. We move furniture, we're not legal advisors.

September 1 lands on a Tuesday this year, and in this city that means half the leases in the GTA turn over on the same morning. Three things worth doing before that morning arrives. Lock the date. The first of the month books out first, and the crews that are left are the ones nobody wanted. Book your elevator. We can't do this one for you — most Toronto buildings only take the request from the resident or the landlord, and they want it in writing, sometimes with a deposit. Ask your concierge this week, not the night before. Measure the big stuff. The sectional, the fridge, the wardrobe. Doorway, hallway, elevator opening. The part worth keeping isn't the logistics. It's friendly, kind, and careful with someone else's things — which is most of what people are actually nervous about when they hand over everything they own for a day.
