“This collection of poems has been in the works since 2018 when I first began writing poetry at the age of sixteen. The poems in this book have a range of focus, but most are about my personal mental health challenges, as well as my struggles with religion and relationships. Creating this collection has been one of the greatest accomplishments of my life; seeing my writing brought to life on paper and compiled into a coherent array of thoughts has been magical. While many of the poems deal with dark emotions, I feel as though there is, in almost every poem, a sense of hope as well. That is to try and exemplify the fact that even when those of us who deal with mental health challenges are struggling, we have hope and desire to get better. These poems have been composed over many years of my life, and they progress through many different obstacles that I have overcome. My dream is that this collection of poems will help others in the same way that creating it has helped me.”

This boy. I mean… man.
But to me, he will always be my kid. The one who made me a mother.
Kind hearted, endlessly curious, and somehow already wiser than I’ll ever be.

He’s already a physicist with a bachelors in mathematical physics from the University of Waterloo. He’s now been accepted into a PhD fast track program at the University of Waterloo, at the Institute of Quantum Computing, which I’m told is kind of a big deal. World renowned, apparently. I don’t fully understand what he does (something about quantum information, AI, and optics), but I do understand him. And he patiently translates it all into a version his mom can follow.

And as if that weren’t enough, he’s taking a class taught by Donna Strickland. A Nobel Prize winning physicist. No biggie.

I am so incredibly proud of you. The kind of proud that makes me want to shout it from the rooftops. I’m probably embarrassing you but it’s my job to do that.
