Today, we wear orange in remembrance of the children who never returned home and in honour of Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity to listen to the truths that have been shared, reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system, and consider what each of us can carry forward from this day.
Learning is part of that ongoing responsibility. September 30 can be a starting point for deeper conversations, greater understanding, and actions that continue throughout every season of the year.
One opportunity to continue that learning this fall is Pathways from Settler Colonialism to Right Relationship and Indigenous Sovereignty, a workshop co-created by ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ ƛ̓iiʔiik Tsimka Martin and Jeanette Sheehy.
The workshop invites participants to think more deeply about what it means to live on and visit unceded Indigenous territories, creating space to ask difficult questions, understand different perspectives, and consider how gratitude and acknowledgement can be carried forward into meaningful action.
