‼️Canada’s national housing agency plans to revamp its forecasts to call for a drop of as much as 15 per cent in home prices, as higher mortgage rates threaten to cause a protracted slump in real estate.

‼️Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp. said in July that national housing prices could slide 5 per cent by mid-2023, compared with levels earlier this year. It’s now revising those projections to allow for a 10 per cent to 15 per cent decline, Chief Executive Officer Romy Bowers said in an interview Thursday at the Bloomberg Canadian Finance Conference.

🔹️Hogue’s report noted that the correction is just beginning, with home prices expected to reach lower levels than RBC anticipated earlier this year.

🔹️“We project home resales to fall nearly 23 per cent this year and 15 per cent next year in Canada,” Hogue wrote in a July 22 release.

🔹️For Halifax realtor Richard Payne, the housing market forecast is a good thing for single-income home buyers.

🔹️Residential mortgage debt grew last year by the fastest pace since 2008 says a new report from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

🔹️ The federal housing agency says that mortgage debt grew by nine per cent for the year, and topped 10 per cent in the early months of this year before rising interest rates started to slow the market.
