Hi everyone, have you met my wife? 5x medalist, 4x Gold Medalist and world champion at the .dragonboat.sport Dragonboat Racing World Championships for 2025 held in Potsdam, Germany— Theresa ““ Laroza.

She hates when introduce her as this, but I can’t help but be incredibly proud of this woman who, one day decided several years ago “I’m going to try dragon boating” on our little lake Scugog and now we’ve just returned home from Germany after she and the team kicked @$$ and took names on the world stage.

He’s still small enough to carry, I’m still strong enough to lift him. Despite not necessarily wanting to put him on my shoulders after a long day when he asked, I remembered that one day, despite how much I will workout to avoid it, my old bones won’t be able to do this any more.
And I know I’ll miss it.
He may never know how much the words “daddy can I go on your shoulders” means to me.

Last year I did my first ever baking contest (and pie) at the Port Perry Agricultural fair. I found out that I wasn’t that bad (who’d figure) and it’s since developed an interest in baking in me that I never really thought I had in me. This year for the Port Perry Fair’s Mens only baking contest (last weekend) the criteria was:

1. Must have a pastry crust
2. Must contain tomatoes

Can be savoury or sweet and creativity was encouraged.

After racking my brain and a version of “southern tomato pie” I had the crazy idea of making a Jamaican Beef and Tomato patty as my entry.

It was different, I had experience in it and it tasted damn good (IMO).

Unfortunately I did not place, it was fantastic but not what the judges were looking for.

All good, it was fun and this just means I get another year of trying!
