Ferry rides, waterfront views, sunshine, and a picnic on Centre Island ☀️⛴️

As part of our summer activities, members of the Sojourn House community spent the day enjoying one of Toronto’s most iconic summer experiences.

For some, it was also a chance to discover a new part of a city they are still getting to know. A simple day out can help Toronto start to feel a little more familiar, while creating space to relax, connect, and make new memories together.

Back-to-back champions! ⚽️🏆

Sojourn House is proud to have won the 2026 Refugee Soccer Cup for the second year in a row!

Hosted by the Ontario Coalition for Service Providers for Refugee Claimants, the tournament celebrated its sixth year of bringing people together through sport. While we’re excited about the win, the best part of the day was sharing the field with so many incredible teams and seeing the teamwork, encouragement, and camaraderie.

A big thank you to the organizers and all the participating teams from partner organizations: The People’s House, Romero House, FCJ Refugee Centre, Matthew House Toronto, Adam House, Micah House, Centre for Refugee Children, and COSTI. We had a great time playing alongside you and spending the day together as a community.

A friendly soccer game. A shared community moment. A reminder of what belonging can feel like.

As the FIFA World Cup games bring global soccer to Toronto, we’re looking back at a special community moment from Toronto Newcomer Day.

Residents from Sojourn House recently took part in a friendly exhibition game at Nathan Phillips Square against COSTI’s Peel Reception Centre team.

For refugee claimants rebuilding their lives in a new country, support means more than housing and employment. It also means connection, friendship, community, and moments that help people feel welcome.

As soccer brings people together across Toronto and around the world, we’re reminded of the power of sport to cross cultures, languages, and backgrounds.

We were proud to cheer on our team and share the field with organizations and communities from across the city. ⚽️
