Don Taylor Bookbinding

Don Taylor Bookbinding Bookbinding Studio, founded in 1980. Don Taylor has been a bookbinder in Toronto since 1980. Don Taylor was born in Edmonton AB. and grew up in Windsor ON.

His practice includes book restoration, design bindings, portfolio making and corporate and edition binding for design firms, architects, small presses and private customers. He has an MA in Romance languages from the U of Windsor in 1975. In 1977 Don moved to Toronto and studied bookbinding with Beatrice Stock, and with Seamas McClafferty, and Annegret Hunter-Elsenbach at Sheridan College in Oakv

ille. Don studied for two further years with Betsy Palmer Eldridge and since then has taken workshops in a wide variety of book arts subjects from leading practitioners from Canada, the United States and Britain. Since 1984 Don has been a teacher for the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists’ Guild and Sir Sandford Fleming College in Haliburton ON. Don’s design bindings and book works have appeared in exhibitions across Canada and in Japan, Italy and France. Examples of his work can be found in private and public collections in Canada, the U.S., Japan, and the United Kingdom. He is also the proprietor of Pointyhead Press which produces book works on subjects such as travel, memoir and the curious.

Results of 6 hard workin’ days of Cbbag’s Bookbinding 2. Top to bottom and left to right: German case binding, Bradel binding in half cloth and paste paper sides, split boards binding in full cloth with sewn end bands and finishing with a bonus moleskine style binding made with fountain pen friendly Tomoe River paper in full, if very thin, leather with gusseted pocket, elastic closure, bookmark and stamped « Probatio Pennae » or Pen Tests in a nod to scriptorium practice ( thanks Steph). They staggered out of here tired but buzzing. Fun times.
