The most common hardscaping mistakes aren't visible on the surface - they're underneath it.
1. Inadequate base depth - Skimping on excavation and base thickness is the single biggest reason interlock driveways and patios fail early.
2. No proper compaction - Even the right depth of gravel fails if it isn't compacted in proper lifts.
3. Poor drainage planning - Water that has nowhere to go ends up underneath your hardscaping - eroding the base from below.
4. Missing or improper edge restraints - Without solid edge restraints, pavers gradually migrate outward.
5. Wrong sand type or thickness - Bedding sand that's too thick or the wrong type causes pavers to rock and shift over time.
Every one of these mistakes is preventable - with the right contractor doing the job properly from day one.
At DCD Landscaping, we build every project from the base up - the right way.
