✅ UPDATE: Significant Weather Event Declaration Lifted
Good news! The City of Quinte West has officially lifted the significant weather event declaration as of this morning, January 30.
While the "event" is technically over, Here is what you need to know as we move into the cleanup phase:
• Continued Caution: Even with the declaration lifted, please continue to take your time while walking or driving. Surfaces may still be slick in some areas as the cleanup continues.
• Gratitude for Our Crews: We want to send a thank you to our maintenance teams and the City’s public works crews. They have worked tirelessly since January 26th in some very tough conditions!
Thank you again for your patience and cooperation throughout this week. We’re glad to be moving toward a clearer, safer weekend! ❄️

CITY OF QUINTE WEST LIFTS SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENT DECLARATION ❄️✅

The City of Quinte West has lifted the significant weather event declaration as of this morning (Jan. 30).

A significant weather event was declared the morning of Jan. 26 amid heavy snowfall. Public Works crews have worked tirelessly during challenging weather conditions to clear the city’s roads, sidewalks and trails.

Lifting this significant weather event declaration does not mean that storm maintenance is complete. Crews will continue snow removal operations over the coming days and weeks.

The City of Quinte West thanks its outdoor operations team for their hard work during this weather event, and the public for their patience and cooperation.

❄️ WINTER OPERATIONS UPDATE: Cleanup Ongoing & Salt Shortage
Following up on yesterday’s update for our Kenmau tenants
The City of Quinte West has confirmed that the Significant Weather Event declaration remains in effect. While crews are working tirelessly, please be aware of the following updates regarding our property maintenance:
• Ongoing Cleanup: Snow removal is continuing today and will likely last for the next several days. Our contractors are out in full force to clear parking lots and walkways.
• Salt Shortage Alert: Due to a widespread salt shortage across Ontario, the City and our maintenance teams are transitioning to using more sand and less salt.
o Note: Sand provides excellent traction to keep you safe, but it does not "melt" the snow like salt does. Please expect surfaces to look different and continue to wear proper winter footwear.
• Patience is Appreciated: Because the weather declaration is still active, it may take longer than usual for everything to return to "normal" conditions.
Thank you for your continued patience as we work through this record-breaking snowfall together. Stay safe and stay warm!

❄️ IMPORTANT WINTER UPDATE: Significant Weather Event
Heads up to all our Kenmau tenants! The City of Quinte West has officially declared a significant weather event due to the heavy snowfall and challenging conditions we’ve seen over the last 24 hours.
What this means for you: While the City and our private snow contractors are working around the clock, the sheer volume of snow means it is taking longer than usual to meet standard clearing times for roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Plows are active: Our contractors are doing their absolute best to keep up with the accumulation.
Expect delays: Maintenance may take longer than standard windows—please be patient as crews navigate the conditions.
Stay safe: Please use extra caution when walking or driving. Surfaces may be slippery until clearing is complete.
We prioritize your safety above all else. Thank you to the plow operators and shovellers working in these tough conditions!
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. Stay warm and stay safe!

UPDATE: The significant weather event declaration was lifted as of 9 a.m. on Jan. 30, 2026.

CITY OF QUINTE WEST DECLARES A SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENT ❄️

The City of Quinte West has declared a significant weather event under Ontario Regulation 239/02 due to the high volume of snow and challenging conditions.

During the significant weather event, the City is advising motorists, pedestrians and residents to use extra caution as the municipality may not be able to meet its maintenance standards for roads and sidewalks due to the significant amount of snow accumulation in the area over the last 24 hours. The declaration will not change how or when the City performs its winter maintenance operations; however, it may take longer than usual to clear the roads and sidewalks. Public safety is the top priority.

The City of Quinte West will update the public with information during this significant weather event as it becomes available.
