“Grasses are the heart and soul of the prairie ecosystem! One of the most common grasses at this time of year is called June Grass. It gets its name because it develops its seed head in June It is a blueish-green plant, about 12cm or 1 foot high. June Grass has a seed head that is about 2cm or 1 inch high. It can be found across the prairies.

June grass is tolerant of drought and it an important food source for wildlife like deer, bison and pronghorn. It is also provides food for livestock!”
