Dr. Lili Liang believes that there is a story behind every person. Whether it’s her patient in Vancouver who works on a screenplay after his day job or a Grandmother who travels 5 hours on foot to seek vision care with her on a mountainside in Lima, Peru.

Every patient has a story behind why they want to change the way they see the world. Through her various mission works in Haiti, Malawi and Peru, she realized that even people from seemingly different backgrounds can have so much in common. With a heart for a humanistic approach to health care, she pursued optometry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated with a Doctor of Optometry and a Master of Public Health from Salus University. Through her training, she learned that understanding her patients on a personal level can change health behaviour for the better.

She now brings that approach to Vancouver where Dr. Lili practices as your neighbourhood optometrist in Gastown and Mount Pleasant. In her optical boutique offices, she cares for her patients with their story in mind and not just their clinical cases. She takes the initiative to connect and listen. When she’s not in office, she also works with a local charitable organization to provide free eye care and eye glasses to the underserved in Vancouver. You can often find Dr. Lili micro dancing to the Samba Jazz records housed in her optical boutique or having a debate on who is the greatest female artist of all time, (which, according to Lili is “obviously” Shakira 💃 💕)

As a side note: she also has the most badass shoes in town 👟

Hungry? This hard-working and fun-loving team delivers casual fare inspired from across Latin America, including arepas, tacos, sanguches and empanadas, to name a few. Hearty, flavourful and satisfying dishes designed to be shared and enjoyed with friends. The majority of our menu is also gluten-free and we offer a fantastic brunch on weekends.

Thirsty? The best margaritas in town (yeah, I said it!), accompany the vast collection of Latin spirits, focusing primarily on Tequila, Mezcal, Pisco, Cachaca & Rum. Killer cocktails executed by a killer bar team, with a tight wine list and a mix of local & Mexican beers.

“In 2012, the owners of The Cascade Company were looking to open their fourth restaurant. Already well established on Main Street, they decided to take on Latin cuisine, having already tackled Canadian, British and South East Asian. So came about El Camino’s! What started as a 30 seat venue has recently expanded to a 60 seat venue - twice the seats, twice the fun!!

Meet Amélie and Vincent! These two sweet souls were born to Vietnamese refugees. 🇻🇳 Amélie is an academic in health, she’s passionate to tell stories that inspire thought, compassion and change. She also exudes an incredible energy that makes you feel like you’ve known her for years.

Vincent’s drive for legacy and his passion for food and design caused him to leave medical school to pursue a dream of advancing authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Vancouver. Together, this brother-sister duo created the highly acclaimed Anh and Chi. 👫🏻
Anh and Chi is a vibrant and cultured restaurant at 3388 Main Street. It’s a beautiful space for community to gather and connect over delicious food and amazing cocktails. 🍹
The restaurant was designed by House of Bohn and their noteworthy cuisine comes from recipes passed down from generation to generation.
They now offer take out, delivery, DIY meal-kits and full service in their dining room and patio.
Open daily from 11 am - late!
Check them out soon ☺️ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Just like Sarah, Much & Little gives off a warm and approachable feel. This adorable shop opened its doors in 2011 with the goal to offer special items for everyday life, while primarily supporting small, independent businesses and designers.

Like many other of the shop owners along Main Street, one of the things that brings Sarah so much joy running this business, is the amazing relationships she’s built over the years with customers, suppliers, designers and other small business owners.

“Mount Pleasant has been good to me and I feel really grateful to have been able to serve this community (and beyond) for almost 10 years!”
-Sarah

Looking forward to the 10 anniversary!

I’m sure many of had a pipe dream in high school, but few of can say we actually followed through with that dream. Miranda is one of those exceptions. She thought up the idea 💡 of creating the Main Exchange back in high school business class and she chased that dream until it became (a very successful) reality. Opening their doors in 2014, in her favourite neighbourhood, Miranda recently got to celebrate her 5-year business anniversary, which was a huge milestone and accomplishment. 🥂

With such a great concept for a store, selling quality (and some luxury), consignment it would be easy to assume that she’d want to expand such a popular shop. But what she loves most about her business is keeping it small enough to allow room to nurture and grow relationships with clients and consignors while also allowing herself the flexibility to enjoy life (Amen to that!) 👏🏻

If you’re looking for quality and/or luxury consignment, with a staff that knows how to help you put an incredible outfit together, be sure to check them out.

I’m realizing a by-product of The Main Street Project has been getting a chance to see everyone behind the masks😷!
is being diligent to keep their customers and themselves safe through these times, but it sure is great to see these friendly faces ☺️
Mel was a regular at Welks for years, so it was a bit of a no brainer when she got hired on as the Manager 7 years ago! Since Welk’s came to the neighbourhood in 2005, this has always been one of her favourite shops and now she loves being able to bring in some of her favourite products for her customers to enjoy.
For being a small shop, they really do carry everything you need. It’s a great alternative to the big box shops 💕

I used to live at Knight and King Edward in King Edward Village. One of my favourite things to do in the Summer would be to jump on my bike with a few friends, ride over to Main Street and explore the neighbourhood. I’d bike around different blocks, checking out all the cute little parks around the area, ride up to Queen Elizabeth park and finish the day off with restaurant crawls down ⁣Main St. .⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
