Today on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour those who came before us and those carrying this work forward today.

The story of Sen̓áḵw did not begin with the buildings you see today. It began generations ago with the people who lived here, cared for this place, and carried forward the vision that one day life would return to these lands.

As our modern village rises once again on these shores, we do so with gratitude for the ancestors, Elders, leaders, and community members whose dedication helped make this village possible.

Today, we celebrate their legacy and all those helping shape the next chapter of this place.

Sen̓áḵw welcomes its first commercial tenant.

We are pleased to announce that Vancity will open a community branch at Sen̓áḵw — the first of many businesses that will bring the village to life.

The Sen̓áḵw Village Branch will serve as Vancity's Centre of Indigenous Banking, bringing together its Indigenous Banking offerings in one location.

Vancity is just the beginning. Over 16,000 square feet of retail space will be home to shops, services and gathering places as Sen̓áḵw grows into a complete community on Squamish Nation land.

As first residents are welcomed home, this marks an important step in that vision taking shape — with more announcements to come!

Before the first residents stepped through the doors of Sen̓áḵw, we gathered to do something important.

Together with Squamish People, Elders, and the many partners who helped bring this village to life, we held a blessing ceremony to care for the spirit of the building and prepare it to welcome our residents home.

This blessing marked the beginning of a new chapter at Sen̓áḵw. One rooted in our history, guided by our values, and built for future generations.
