Bookkeeper for Rental Properties

Maple Projects Inc, a fast-growing real estate investment and property management company, is looking for an bookkeeper who is in the later stages of obtaining their CPA designation.
Ideally, you have a business degree and property management accounting experience which will help you understand the operation.
We are using Rent Manager as the property management software; the bookkeeper needs to be computer savvy and will have the ability to learn new software quickly.
The bookkeeper mainly works alone but sometimes in a team environment - you need to be self motivated, take initiative, meet deadlines, have excellent communication skills, and be flexible working independently or as a team.
Our property management team is highly motivated, hardworking, and driven; the bookkeeper must have the same qualities.
This position comes with health and dental benefits. We offer a competitive salary and have an annual performance review. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Job Description:
• Full cycle A/R A/P, payroll and month-end accounting/reporting;
• Prepare weekly, monthly and year-end journal entries, adjustments, accruals and financial statements for the properties;
• Review financial aspects of leases;
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets;
• Review A/R on a monthly/bi-monthly basis and work with property managers to reconcile tenant accounts;
• Prepare A/P with supporting documents for approval;
• Prepare monthly bank, inter-company and Rent Roll reconciliations for external review;
• Prepare electronic funds transfers;
• Submit monthly/quarterly/yearly remittances of WCB, Payroll Tax, GST and Corp Tax;
• Effectively communicate financial information to the Owners, Managing Directors, Property Managers, and Leasing Agents;
• Provide financial and analytical assistance to Managers; and
• Perform additional projects/assignments as needed.
Competitive salary based on experience

Ideally, we are seeking a seasoned (10 years) bookkeeper or accountant who has knowledge of the hotel industry and is well versed on hotel accounting

You will be the sole accountant so a thorough working knowledge/experience as a hotel accountant is essential as is full cycle accounting, bank reconciliations and control measures.

We are looking for a candidate that is very proficient with computers and computer programs. We also use Excel for budgetary purposes.

The job is located in downtown Vancouver.

You will be responsible for the accounting of two hotels: one at Vancouver airport and the other at Calgary airport.

Job Responsibilities

• Communicating with management and external accountants regarding overall status of the Hotel and related properties;

• Prepare accounting files for review engagement

• Prepare reports as required by the Hotel General Manager to facilitate the operation of the hotel

• Ensure financial records are in order and organized

• Prepare reports as required by the lender and Franchisor

• Submit information on payroll to Ceridian and administer all payroll related requirements

• Submit Government remittance, GST, WCB
