Moving to Canada: Expectations vs. Reality

In this episode, I sit down with my good friend Halim Habibi to talk about his journey from Afghanistan to Canada about a decade ago, including his brief experience living in the U.S.

Halim shares something many newcomers can relate to: the expectations we sometimes have before moving to Canada. The idea that life will be easier i.e. more money, a nice car, a comfortable lifestyle, and opportunities everywhere, as if Canada is a paradise waiting for you. 😍

But once you arrive, reality can be very different. Building a life in Canada takes hard work, patience, and time. There are financial pressures, social challenges, and realities that aren’t always visible from the outside.

Halim and I have an honest conversation about immigration, expectations vs. reality, working hard, and what life in Canada is really like for newcomers.
On a personal note, I was also fortunate to help Halim sell his condo and upsize into a townhouse. What started as a real estate transaction became a great friendship, and I’m grateful we were able to have this conversation.
