Attracted by Yucatán: interest in retiring to live on the coast is growing.

Yucatán is consolidating itself as an attractive place for foreigners or people from other parts of the Republic who are looking for a second residence, especially now due to the pandemic.

The so-called second home tourism in Yucatan, mainly on the north coast, has increased a lot in recent years due to the growing interest of retirees who seek, among other things, security conditions.

The cochinita pibil is one of the greatest representatives of Yucatecan gastronomy.

Cochinita pibil is a traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán Peninsula. Preparation of traditional cochinita involves marinating the meat in strongly acidic citrus juice, adding annatto seed which imparts a vivid burnt orange color, and roasting the meat in a píib while it is wrapped in banana leaf.

15 boutique hotels are under construction in El Cuyo, Yucatan.

The Mayor of Tizimín, Pedro Couoh Suaste, declared that they are promoting a project to detonate the port of El Cuyo for tourism and for which there are currently 15 boutique-type hotels under construction, as well as restaurants and that in recent months the arrival of mainly international tourism has increased.

“El Cuyo is the only port we have and we need to adapt to receive all the investments that are coming, they are tourist developments, they are hotels, restaurants, the entire tourist sector,” he said.

The place, located 15 kilometers from the city of Valladolid, is a place of total tranquility and is frequently visited by people looking for a photograph in one of the most instagrammable places in the state, the Church of Santo Domingo.

The Temple and Ex-Convent of Santo Domingo was built with stones from nearby Mayan ruins around 1646, and due to their peculiar architectural style, they are unique throughout the country. During the Caste War the rebellious Mayans captured Uayma and destroyed the original church which was later rebuilt.

The Mayab according to myth
A Mayan legend tells that Itzama decided to create a land that was very beautiful, to such a degree that everyone who knew it wanted to live in it. Thus I create the Mayab, the land of the chosen, the adornment of the most beautiful flowers. I create the cenotes that reflected the sunlight in their crystalline waters, as well as caverns that held mysteries.

Itzama gave the land to the Mayans, to remember that day he chose three animals to live forever in it. So whoever thought of them would immediately remember that land, these were the pheasant, the deer and the rattlesnake. The animals that Itzama chose were in charge of touring the created land. The pheasant flew from tree to tree, even the largest and his cry was heard by all the inhabitants. The deer ran light as the wind and the bell made music as it passed.
