I used to think living on campus was automatically the best option for university, but there are a few things I wish I considered sooner ๐
Here are 5 reasons off-campus housing can be worth looking into:
๐ More independence
You have more control over your space, your routine, who you live with, and what your day-to-day life looks like.
๐ You actually get to experience the city
Instead of spending all your time around campus, you get to explore different neighbourhoods, cafรฉs, restaurants, parks, and everything else Vancouver has to offer.
๐ค Off-campus doesnโt have to mean antisocial
One thing people overlook is that you can still have a student community while living off campus. Having shared spaces, resident events, and other students around makes a huge difference, especially if youโre new to Vancouver.
๐ You can choose a location that works for your life
Being close to SkyTrain or major transit routes can make it easy to get to school while also keeping you connected to the rest of the city.
๐๏ธ You can get independence without having to figure everything out yourself
Thatโs one of the reasons options like GEC can be a nice middle ground. You get the off-campus living experience, while still having things like fully furnished suites, utilities included, housekeeping, convenient transit access, and community events.
University housing isnโt one-size-fits-all. Definitely look at both on-campus and off-campus options before deciding what works best for you ๐
