With 600 guests, live performances, and spirited bidding on stunning works by Canadian artists, the room was full of energy and generosity.

We couldn’t resist becoming part of the art.

Maggie Hall’s CMYK works have this incredible pull. From across the room, you see an image. Get closer and it dissolves into hundreds and hundreds of meticulously hand-rendered dots.

So naturally, we decided to turn ourselves into dots too.

The playful version took us seconds. Maggie’s version most definitely does not. Each work is painstakingly created by hand, dot by dot, using the four foundational colours of printing. There’s something we love about that contradiction: a technique associated with mass production slowed right down and made incredibly personal.

And somehow, standing there looking at ourselves looking at her work, recreated in her visual language, felt like the perfect little art-world moment.

Maggie, we promise we have a whole new appreciation for every single dot.
