📣 Save this post for future reference 📣

Each year, The Bank of Canada carries out monetary policy by influencing short-term interest rates. It does this by adjusting the target for the overnight rate on eight fixed dates each year. Here’s the 2026 Bank of Canada rate announcement schedule:

Today the Bank of Canada held its target for the overnight rate at 2.25%, with the Bank Rate at 2.50%and the deposit rate at 2.20%.

The outlook for the global and Canadian economies is little changed from its October report. Overall, the bank expects global growth to average about 3%. Canada’s economic growth is projected to be modest in the near term as population growth slows. The CAD dollar rose slightly against the US dollar as the US dollar weakened. However, as was a major wrench last year, the Canadian economy continues vulnerability to unpredictable US trade policies and geopolitical risks resulting in Buyer sentiment being a driving factor.

The next scheduled announcement for the overnight rate target is March 18th.

I remember standing in front of my client’s fridge last year this time. On it was a collage of pics along with a hand drawn picture of a house with ‘December 2025’ written on the bottom right corner.

Fast forward 8 months the pic was long gone and forgotten about. We listed his home and received an offer within a month. The only stipulation - the Buyer needed December dates. It’s funny cause my client had forgotten all about that pic. When we received the offer and dates I reminded him about it and he laughed. The home we put an offer on even resembled his drawing:)

And here we are - Possession Day December 2025🏡 🔑
