JUNE 10, 2026 — NO RATE CHANGE

The Bank of Canada has HELD the overnight rate at 2.25% (Bank Rate 2.5%, deposit rate 2.20%), as global uncertainty continues to intensify.

🌍 The evolving conflict in the Middle East and ongoing U.S. trade policy shifts are driving volatility across energy markets, interest rates, and global financial conditions. Higher oil prices are now adding fresh inflation pressure worldwide, especially for energy-importing economies.

🇨🇦 At the same time, Canada’s economy remains soft but stable:
* Growth has resumed after a Q4 2025 contraction
* GDP forecast: 1.2% in 2026
* Labour market remains weak with unemployment in the 6.5%–7% range
* Housing activity continues to be held back by affordability and uncertainty
* Trade and tariffs continue to weigh on exports and business investment

Inflation has recently risen to 2.4% (March) and is expected to move closer to ~3% near-term due to higher energy costs. However, core inflation remains more stable, and the Bank expects inflation to gradually return toward the 2% target next year as oil prices ease.

Financial markets have also been volatile — bond yields are slightly higher, equity markets have recovered from early shocks, and the Canadian dollar remains relatively stable against the U.S. dollar.

今個月最值得留意的是公寓市場持續疲弱,成交量按年下跌超過 7%,成為拖低整體成交的主要原因。不過,城市屋及獨立屋市場則相對穩定,其中獨立屋成交更錄得輕微增長。

雖然新放盤數量比去年減少,但整體庫存仍然維持高位,令樓價維持平穩,買家依然擁有充足選擇及議價空間。
