🌧️ 1. Rain isn’t an excuse to cancel plans. Playground? Soccer practice? Weekend outing? You’re going. You just invest in better rain gear and accept that your kids WILL find the deepest puddle.

🌉 2. Crossing a bridge is a whole commitment. You check traffic before agreeing to anything across a bridge. Add kids, snack requests and emergency bathroom stops, and that quick trip becomes a whole outing. 😂

💔 3. Some realities of Vancouver are heartbreaking. The homelessness and addiction crisis affects real people in our community who deserve dignity, compassion and support. It’s easy to become desensitized, but we can all do better at being part of the conversation and the change.

☀️ 4. The second the sun comes out, Vancouver shuts down.
Beaches are packed. Trails are busy. Playgrounds are overflowing. And the group chat that’s been dead for three weeks? Suddenly everyone’s available. 😂

🏔️ 5. You forget how beautiful Vancouver is. Until family visits from out of town or you’re driving home on a clear day and catch those snow-covered mountains. Even the kids stop arguing in the backseat for approximately 4 seconds. 😂

☕ 6. Your local coffee shop becomes your social life.
You pop in for a quick coffee, run into a neighbour, buy the kids a treat, and somehow turn a $6 coffee into a $25 outing. Parenting, right?

🏡 7. Complaining about housing is Vancouver’s unofficial hobby. Renters complain about rent. Owners complain about mortgage payments. Parents want more space. And everyone has an opinion about whether buying here is still worth it.

Some neighbourhoods mean more time in traffic. Others offer the parks, schools, walkability and community your family has been looking for. The right neighbourhood isn’t necessarily the most expensive one. It’s the one that fits the way you actually live.

When my husband and I were thinking about leaving downtown Vancouver, we weren’t planning our future around kids just yet. We were thinking about getting a puppy. 😂

We wanted more space, more breathing room, and somewhere that felt more like the life we wanted to build. Somehow, that turned into a much bigger question: If we were going to leave Downtown, where would we actually want to live?
