I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME THIS 20 YEARS AGO.
The biggest investing lesson wasn’t how to make money.
It was how not to lose it.
If I could sit down with my younger self for 10 minutes, I wouldn’t talk about interest rates.
I wouldn’t talk about cap rates.
I wouldn’t talk about real estate.
I’d talk about time.
I bought my first duplex in my late 20s and learned quickly that ownership changes the way you think.
Over the years I had some great wins.
One deal generated roughly $80,000 in just a few months.
Another involved a commercial unit with 13 offices that I rented to entrepreneurs and startups, creating far more income than a traditional lease would have produced.
But my biggest lessons came from my mistakes.
For years, when properties increased in value, I sold them.
At the time, I thought I was winning.
Looking back, many of those properties should have been refinanced and held.
Then the market changed.
Interest rates rose.
Financing became harder.
Opportunities became fewer.
Like many investors, I had to adapt.
That’s when I realized something important:
Success isn’t about never getting knocked down.
It’s about learning faster than everyone else.
That’s why I’m building a community of people who want to learn, grow, and build wealth through ownership.
Not because I have all the answers.
Because I’ve made enough mistakes to help others avoid some of them.
