This month, let us take some time to remember our veterans, fallen soldiers and those who continue to fight for our freedom. Many of us have loved ones who have served or actively serve in the military, i am no exception.
My grandfather, Vernon D. Cole, served as a Captain of Princess Patriciaβs Canadian Light Infantry from 1942-1976. During his service he was posted in a variety of places ( Germany, Uk, USA) and honourably fulfilled his duties.
One of his most notable postings where he lead his troops was in Korea. It was during the Korean War that he received a military metal of bravery in the line of duty. It was during this war that he helped fight for freedom.
Later in his career, my Grandfather bestowed his knowledge on young cadets across Canada, including right here in Victoria. Such acts of bravery and leadership deserve to be honoured. I am proud that my Grandfatherβs legacy lived in me and my country.
