🏦 Bank of Canada Holds Interest Rate Steady

As expected this morning, the Bank of Canada held its overnight lending rate at 2.25%, choosing to leave interest rates unchanged while it continues to monitor inflation, economic growth, and global uncertainty.

So what does that mean?

The Bank noted that Canada’s economy continues to face mixed signals. While inflation remains a concern, economic growth has been softer than expected and uncertainty surrounding global trade and geopolitical events continues to weigh on business confidence. Rather than move rates higher or lower, the Bank believes holding steady is the best approach for now.

For buyers:
✅ Mortgage rates are expected to remain relatively stable in the near term, giving you more certainty while shopping for a home.

For sellers:
✅ Stable borrowing costs help keep qualified buyers in the market, supporting continued activity despite a more balanced market.

The biggest takeaway is that the Bank remains data-dependent. Future decisions will be driven by inflation, employment, consumer spending, and economic growth over the coming months—not by a predetermined path.
