Did you know that Royal Oak Shopping Centre was rezoned last year? It is now zoned consistently with other commercial malls and shopping centres in Saanich. The new C3-L zoning classification allows for the operation of both retail liquor and cannabis stores.

We are excited to share that CannaPlus Retailers has applied to the province and Saanich to open a cannabis store at Royal Oak Shopping Centre and are interested in hearing from the community. Please join us for Lajah Warren 's gallery opening on Saturday, July 13th. From 12pm-5pm you can find Lajah in her new gallery at 104-4489 Viewmont Ave (Royal Oak Shopping Centre) and roam the property to check out the banners, mural and other artworks that Lajah has created for the centre.

Hansbraun Investments Ltd. has submitted a rezoning application for both the Saanich Centre and Royal Oak Shopping Centre properties to allow for the retail sale of liquor and cannabis. For 20 years, Liquor Plus has operated their stores in both centres safely with no compliance or enforcement issues, and allowing for the sale of cannabis will make the zoning consistent with other similarly sized shopping centres in Saanich (Shelbourne Plaza & Tillicum Mall), where cannabis is being sold under this new zoning classification.

We are working with a cannabis retail regulatory expert to advise on safely establishing stores in our shopping centres. Dugald Smith of Rising Tide Consultants is a former Deputy General Manager of the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch and was central to establishing and monitoring the provincial regulatory framework. We’ve been patient in bringing cannabis to our centres and have seen the industry be quite placid in the retail scope over the last five years in Saanich.
