Police have not released details relating to the incident, and only ask the public to seek alternate routes if available.

🔹Victoria-bound Westjet flight out of Vancouver suddenly lost altitude, TSB says🔹

An early January flight from Vancouver International Airport to Victoria International Airport could have ended in disaster if its pilots had not reacted fast enough to a sudden loss of altitude.

A Westjet Q400 operating as flight 3405 had taken off from YVR on January 2nd, and when reaching 2,000 feet in elevation, it began to descend at over 2,000 feet per minute instead of climbing to 4,000 feet as instructed by air traffic controllers. The Transportation Safety Board says the pilots had entered a flight level of 4,000 feet into their onboard computer when they had reached 2,000 feet. But instead, the aircraft began to rapidly descend. The pilots reacted quickly and regained control of the aircraft, eventually reaching a height of 4,000 feet, the TSB says.

The plane landed safely in Victoria.

The TSB is said to be monitoring the incident.
