**CAMBODIA — PART 5 OF 5 🇰🇭**
**We Finished Together**

Five days.

Heat. Blisters. Exhaustion. A medical setback I never expected.

And then those final kilometres.

When I crossed the finish with my Cambodia Challenge family, the emotion wasn’t really about completing a trek.

It was about everything that had brought us there.

About 120 people from across Canada had travelled to Cambodia and stepped outside their comfort zones for one reason:

To help women and children find safety.

Together, the Cambodia Challenge participants raised approximately $1.6 million for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

Those dollars help provide beds, counselling, resources, prevention programs and, most importantly, somewhere safe to go when home isn’t safe.

But there was another part of this trek that affected me deeply.

There were people within our own group who bravely shared their personal stories people who have lived through abuse themselves and are now survivors.

To stand in front of others and speak those words out loud takes a kind of courage I can’t fully describe.

I am incredibly proud of them.

Their stories reminded all of us that the reason we were walking wasn’t distant or abstract. Family violence touches real people, including people standing right beside us.

And their strength gave even more meaning to every kilometre.

The money I personally raise through the Shelter Foundation ultimately helps support the organization serving our area the Spark Foundation of Lloydminster because Wainwright does not have its own emergency women’s shelter.

That local connection matters to me.

Cambodia gave us experiences I’ll never forget Angkor Wat, the villages, our guides, the laughter, the difficult moments and an incredible group of people who became family very quickly.

I went to Cambodia thinking the challenge would be whether I could walk the kilometres.

That wasn’t the biggest lesson.

The lesson was that none of us should have to face the hardest moments of our lives alone.

That’s why I continue supporting the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

That’s why I’ll keep talking about family violence, even when it’s uncomfortable.

And that’s why every step mattered.

**CAMBODIA — PART 4 OF 5 🇰🇭
I Wasn't Finished**

After having to stop on Day 3, there was one question I couldn't get out of my head:

**Could I get back out there?**

I wasn't going to pretend nothing had happened.

I wasn't going to do something unsafe just to say I had finished.

But if there was a way to safely rejoin my group before this journey ended, I wanted to try.

And on **Day 5**, I got that opportunity.

With Domenic seeing me back off, a very quick Tutu ride, I was once again back with my group.

Those final kilometres felt different from every kilometre that had come before them.

This wasn't about distance anymore.

It wasn't about proving anything.

It was about finishing something together.

Then we came toward the group.

They saw us.

And I'll never forget what happened next.

There were cheers.

There were hugs.

People who had walked through the Cambodian heat for five days were standing there welcoming me back.

At that moment, I understood something about this challenge that had very little to do with trekking.

We had travelled to Cambodia to support people who sometimes need someone beside them when life becomes impossible to navigate alone.

And when I needed someone beside me, that's exactly what this group did.

We still had those last few kilometres to walk.

Together.

**CAMBODIA — THE PEOPLE**
**The People You Meet Along the Way**

The day I had to step away from the trek was without a doubt one of the saddest parts of my Cambodia journey.

But somehow, that same day also gave me something I never expected.

**People.**

One of the things I’ve learned through these Shelter Foundation treks is that the support doesn’t stop with the people assigned to your group.

It comes from everywhere.

From the people walking beside you.

From the guides who are constantly watching out for you.

From trekkers in completely different groups who may barely know you but somehow know exactly what you need to hear.

And sometimes, from people you haven’t seen since the last time you did something crazy like this together.

Because I wasn't trekking that day, I ended up crossing paths with some of my **favourite people from my previous trek**.

People who already understood.

They knew what these treks mean.

They knew what it feels like when you've trained, fundraised and committed yourself to finishing — and suddenly the plan changes.

And just when I needed it, there they were.

I also met new trekkers that day.

People who really didn't know me yet, but offered the same encouragement, support, laughs and, quite honestly, **love** that I've experienced throughout the Shelter Foundation community.

That's difficult to explain until you've been part of one of these treks.

You arrive as Royal LePager from different offices, different provinces and different parts of the country.

Some are friends.

Some are competitors.

Some you've never met before.

But out there, none of that seems to matter.

**You become family.**

Someone is always checking on you.

Someone is making you laugh when you need it.

Someone is walking beside you when things get difficult.

And if you're not walking that day, somehow there are still people there to make sure you aren't going through it alone.

So yes, missing that day was a difficult part of my Cambodia story.

But when I look back at it now, I don't just remember the kilometres I didn't walk.

**I remember the people I was lucky enough to spend that day with.**

And maybe that's one of the reasons why, when I think about signing up for another trek, the destination isn't what pulls me back the most.

**It's knowing some of these incredible people will be there too. ❤️**

But my Cambodia story still wasn't finished.

**CAMBODIA — PART 3 OF 5 🇰🇭**
**The Day I Had to Stop**

As fate would have it, I started the day taking pictures with many of my trekmates. Today was going to be the hardest day, and we all knew it.

This is probably the hardest part of the Cambodia story for me to tell.

I went there to finish.

I had trained. I had fundraised. People back home had supported me and believed in what I was doing.

So when I reached the point where I had to **step away from the trek for medical reasons on Day 3**, it was difficult to accept.

Your head tells you one thing:

*Keep going.*

Your body sometimes tells you something very different.

And in that moment, the responsible decision was to listen.

Watching my group continue without me wasn't easy.

There's disappointment that comes with something like that. You start thinking about everyone who donated, everyone following along from home, and all of the reasons you came halfway around the world in the first place.

But Cambodia was teaching me something I hadn't expected.

Strength isn't always measured by how long you can keep going.

Sometimes it's knowing when you need help.

And what happened around me during that time — from my fellow trekkers, our guides, and the people looking after me — reminded me that none of us were actually doing this alone.

There were still two days left.

And I wasn't quite finished yet.

**Part 4: One decision changed the way my Cambodia trek would end.**
