Chapman’s has spent more than a year quietly rebuilding its supply chain, and the result is becoming much bigger than swapping one supplier for another.

The Markdale, Ontario company says it’s on track to replace more than 70% of the American ingredients and components it once bought by the middle of 2027.

That means cherries from Chile, almonds from Australia and more production coming home to Ontario, including the wafers used in ice cream sandwiches.

One of the more interesting pieces is the humble sugar cone, because Chapman’s signed a five-year deal with Ontario manufacturer Original Foods to establish a Canadian production line where none previously existed at industrial scale.

And despite shipping some ingredients halfway around the planet, Chapman says several of the new suppliers are matching or even beating what the company had been paying in the United States.

Chapman’s is also keeping its dairy Canadian and has promised to freeze consumer prices until at least March 2028, turning a trade dispute into a pretty serious experiment in rebuilding domestic supply chains.
