The RM of West St. Paul would like to remind residents that if you are planning outdoor activities or celebrations, please be mindful of those living around you and help keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Under the Municipality's Noise By-Law, the firing or setting off of fireballs, squibs, firecrackers, and fireworks is prohibited. The Community Safety and By-Law Enforcement Officer will be conducting increased patrols throughout the RM during major events and holidays, including Canada Day and festivals. Fines for illegally setting off fireworks can be up to $1,000.

The lighting of fireworks may be permitted only when conducted by certified personnel as a public display for the benefit of the community and when a permit has been issued by the Municipality.

Please consider your neighbours, pets, livestock, wildlife, and the safety of everyone in the community before using fireworks or engaging in activities that may create excessive noise or disruption.

Planning a new deck, pool, hot tub, shed, or outdoor structure this summer? Before construction begins, make sure you have the proper permits in place.

A building permit is required for swimming pools, hot tubs, ponds, and any outdoor structure capable of containing more than 600 mm (2 feet) of water. Permits are also required for accessory buildings over 120 sqft, including storage sheds.

A building permit is required for any deck attached to a dwelling, any deck higher than 600 mm (1.97 ft.) above ground level, or any deck intended to support a future enclosed structure such as a sunroom or family room. Detached decks less than 600 mm (1.97 ft.) above average ground level do not require a permit.

Obtaining the proper permits helps ensure your project meets safety requirements and municipal regulations while helping keep our community safe and well-planned.
